Balanced Water

Water Basics

The Water Element speaks to the emotional realm and shows how we connect and relate to others. Life begins in the watery womb and this element describes what helps us feel nurtured, fed and supported. Water is a receptive, Yin energy with the qualities of cold and wet. Cold initiates a slower, more compressed mode of being, while moisture is soft, flexible and unifying.

Water is the awareness of our own feelings and how sensitive we are to the mood and feelings of others. This is a binding and blending element that is guided by intuition and emotion. Water inherently lacks the ability to separate, therefore this element is focused on the collective rather than the individual. The flow of Water can frequently change course as it follows the path of least resistance, seeping into every crack and merging with other streams as it journeys to lower, more protected ground. The ultimate goal of water is to gather together and be fully absorbed into the larger collective.

Your Watery Balance

You have a well-balanced Water element which allows you to go with the flow without being swept away by the current. You are mindful of your feelings and have the ability to accurately perceive the emotional state of others. You value your home, family and friends and are able to relate to different people and form healthy connections. You know how to adapt to changing circumstances and hold the right balance between responsibility and relaxation.

Water can often blur the line between self and others, but more often than not you maintain boundaries and independence within personal relationships. Sometimes Water can create tidal waves of emotion that can be difficult to control or moderate. However, your elemental balance reduces the likelihood of up and down mood swings or emotional overwhelm.

The Water element is the channel for imagination and creativity. When people are too dry, they often feel uncomfortable swimming in these waters. When they are too wet, they are unable to use these skills in a practical way. Your balanced nature gives you the ability to tap into these artistic streams to productively use these gifts.

Passion, depth and loyalty are important Water concepts that can be nourished through devotion to people, projects or ideals. Sometimes our passions can turn into obsessions, but your elemental balance can help you successfully walk that line.

An excess of Water can feed our insecurities and lead to overprotective tendencies, clinginess or attachment issues. Luckily you have just enough Water for healthy self-preservation without the need to hold on to everything for fear of losing it. You are probably great at providing help and support to others while also recognizing when you need alone time or self-care. Overall, your ability to balance flexibility with stability and empathy with reason is an elemental superpower that can be used in various ways throughout your life.

Maintain Your Balance

Water is the most emotional element, so it is important to regularly engage in activities that help support the emotional layer of self.

If your emotions are getting the best of you then you can help moderate these feelings by reducing water through regular sauna sessions, implementing more structure in your daily routines, and consuming more spices such as ginger or tumeric.

If you begin to feel disconnected or uninspired then you can increase your flow of water by taking more time to connect with friends and family, participating in water activities such as swimming or baths, and consuming more oil, fruit and dairy.
