Excessive Water
Water Basics
The Water Element speaks to the emotional realm and shows how we connect and relate to others. Life begins in the watery womb and this element describes what helps us feel nurtured, fed and supported. Water is a receptive, Yin energy with the qualities of cold and wet. Cold initiates a slower, more compressed mode of being, while moisture is soft, flexible and unifying.
Water is the awareness of our own feelings and how sensitive we are to the mood and feelings of others. This is a binding and blending element that is guided by intuition and emotion. Water inherently lacks the ability to separate, therefore this element is focused on the collective rather than the individual. The flow of Water can frequently change course as it follows the path of least resistance, seeping into every crack and merging with other streams as it journeys to lower, more protected ground. The ultimate goal of water is to gather together and be fully absorbed into the larger collective.
Balanced Water
Caring, passionate, comforting, devoted, protective, expressive, kind, flexible, loyal, and intuitive.
A high capacity for receiving, perceiving and reflecting with good awareness and sensitivity to the realm of feelings. The ability to generate healthy forms of nurturing and nourishing without becoming overwhelmed or absorbed by the emotions of others.
Excessive Water
When there is an overabundance of water, you exist with a heightened level of sensitivity that makes you more vulnerable, intense and emotional. A natural ability to form connections makes everything feel meaningful. You have a deep devotion to relationships, memories and treasured possessions and will protect what you love at all costs. Sometimes this can lead to clingy behaviors and a real struggle with letting things go.
It can be hard to stay on course due to the fluidity of water and this can impact your finances, home life and body. Money may unpredictably flow in and out which makes it difficult to stick to a budget, and you may be an emotional spender. Your desire to feel comfortable and secure means there is no place like home, and nothing is more important than friends and family. In theory this can be very fulfilling, but you can lose yourself in others and resist going anywhere that is unfamiliar. The constant ebb and flow of emotions means you often experience feelings of worry, insecurity or perceived rejection. Unregulated emotional states can increase the risk of problems around your immune system, eating habits and bodily rhythms.
The vastness and depth of your emotions can make it painful to endure any separation. In relationships you may attempt to fully merge with your partner which may not always be appropriate or wanted. You have a strong sense of loyalty combined with a malleable, adaptable soul, so you may find yourself 100% committed to a project or person and then two weeks later be just as committed to something or someone different. Your passion can be a strength and weakness. Professionally you might struggle if your work does not hold real value or meaning, and on the opposite end of the spectrum there is a risk of healthy passions derailing into unhealthy obsessions.
Sometimes it might be difficult to find words to describe how you feel, but your ability to connect, absorb, dissolve and flow can open up channels of imagination with strong gifts for creative expression.
Remediation
Water is a cold and wet element, so the best place to start is by introducing more heat and dryness into your life to create more stability and balance.
Simple ideas include:
Introduce a regular sauna or other sweat sessions to create more heat and release more water
Implement rigid routines around waking up, going to bed and daily self-care
Consume more ginger and tumeric, while reducing dairy and oily or cold foods
Carry Fire stones or crystals in your pocket such as Carnelian or Tigers Eye.
